Starting Over in 2016

How to Style Denim Shorts - Nancie MwaiI missed you so much! I missed blogging, I missed writing, I missed creating fashion, I missed practically everything that relates to blogging but the one thing I missed the most is my wonderful friends who come here daily to take in and experience what I have shared.

Where was I?

Let’s go back to 2013 after I came back from my Germany trip. That was one of the highest peaks of my blogging life. When I came back home I started feeling an immense pressure to up my content game, do something different, generally just make a change on my whole blogging experience. The pressure was all from within me. Since I couldn’t figure out what to do with my blog I ended up having a slight resentment for blogging.

I did still continue blogging though I was not 100% passionate about my work. I then got pregnant and that bred the perfect excuse to avoid my blog. It was such a bother to me and I was happy being away from it. I initially thought that once I gave birth it would all change but it didn’t, I had to deal with my post baby body.

Later in 2014 I started doing makeup videos on YouTube as I prepared to launch my blog in January of 2015. Once I did, it felt foreign to me. If you read my blog last year you definitely noticed a difference in content and my attitude as well. I removed my comment box, I stopped writing completely and I deleted 99% of my blog posts. I had well over 1000 posts and now I have less than 30.

Fast forward to April of 2015 and I decided to shut down my blog completely, deleted all my social media accounts as well. I figured if I was going to give out mediocre content, it wasn’t worth having a blog at all. I literally tried to rid myself off the internet.(which is kind of impossible). At this point my friends thought I was crazy, my mom, my spouse, my readers…but I had made up my mind and nothing was going to change it.

I watched a speech done by Lauryn Hill back in 2000 and here’s a quote that I felt explains the rut I was in.

I cannot create and not live. I cannot be in this vacuum of creativity without life.

We’re all trying to get to this next level without the next level finding us.

Life is peaks and valleys and some people explain it as good times and bad times but I actually think it’s learning and mastership or study and mastership.

I went from the top of one mountain, (and) I’ve mastered something and people appreciated it. Once you’ve been on top on that mountain, you have to go down, but people are like, ‘I’m not moving….I’m the master, I’m great, I’m dope, I’m here, I’ve arrived, I’m not going anywhere!

That’s when you stay stuck…

On one hill, one mountain.

God’s intention is that we study and master a bunch of things. So here i am descending this hill and everybody is like “where are you going, we’re supposed to be on top of the hill?”

But it’s definitely an exciting time for me because I’m at the foot of another hill. This hill is totally different and navigated differently, but i get to learn. Once you learn and you go through that, you’re on the top of another one.

I would encourage everyone to never be afraid of not knowing…find out because that’s how you get to mastership.

Let’s not be mediocre in our greatness.

Think big, and think in doses, and think in experiences and don’t be afraid of experiences that teach you.

I’m a firm believer in reinventing yourself every once in a while, I also believe in re-branding yourself to fit your current personality. The Fashion Notebook is something I came up with 6 years ago and it was about time to let it go and move on to something fresh and new. The domain name has changed as well from to

This blog will cover more than just fashion, I’ve added a lifestyle bit which will cover practically anything outside fashion from food to fitness to random human interest articles. I’ve always been passionate about vlogging so I’ll do that as well. I have a lot of ideas and you’ll see them slowly pop up as the weeks progress but I would also love to hear what ideas you have for this new blog.  After all, you are a driving force behind all of this! Feel free to leave a comment below.

I love you.

Ooh nancie my heart goes out to you. It’s always hard to maneuver yourself out of a rut but I’m glad you did and I’m glad you shared your struggles because it tells us that it’s okay to struggle internally and that it’s okay to stop, search, strategize and start again. This just taught me that when life gets ahead of us we can slow down.. And switch back the momentum when we’re ready. Love and love to you Nancie ????
