Bread and Butter Berlin 2013

Bread and Butter is an international trade show for selected brands. Bread and Butter this year had 600 exhibitors and they are from all over the world in the sectors of street fashion, shoes, denim, sport wear etc.
Bread and Butter provides a platform for retailers, press reps and buyers to meet. Most of the collections there are next season’s collections. It was a big deal for me to be there and see talk to some of my favorite brands and also see how the business of fashion works. Brands range from Toms, Lacoste, Lagerfeld,Desigual, Steve Madden, Timberland and many more.
Each retailer is given their own space and the interesting thing is the set up of different stores. Everyone has their own vision and signature and they convey it well. Quality is key. I was blown away by the quality of the production of the event as well as the garments, the set up. Everything was well done.
Bread and Butter Berlin is held in an old airport, Berlin Tempelhof Airport, that was closed in 2008. The airport now hosts numerous events and fairs and was also converted into a park and they are still working on it.

Bread & Butter is the largest Urban and Streetwear tradeshow in Europe. Showcasing the lastest innovations, their motto is ‘Best Brands. Best Buyers. Best Business’. The Berlin event sprawls across 8 disused airport hangars and is attended by a host of the industry’s biggest players. Last week we explored the AW 12/13 collections, profiling the latest trends and selecting our Top 5 brands of the show.

There were 8 different areas and it took me 2.5 hours just to walk from one side to another. I must say brands went all out. They build factories, small bars and caffees within their “stands”. It was amazing to see collections that will be available in stores next year.
