How To Start A Blog

You've been reading blogs for the last one year and you feel like you can do it! You can be a mega blogger and easily do what others are doing. Your friends tell you that your style is amazing and you need to have a blog to share your looks on. You're an instagram queen and you feel it's about time I got a blog. You're easily the most stylish girl in your class and you know deep down you would kill this blogging thing. Brands will want to work with you, girls will want to be you and you'll be the hottest thing in town, travelling left, right and centre and wearing the coolest stuff.

Hold up! The above reasons are not enough to start a blog. Being passionate about what you do is the key when it comes to starting a blog. You can be stylish and not passionate about blogging. Being stylish is the easy part when it comes to running a blog.

Where to Start?

If you want your blog to look just like your favourite blogger's blog, you'll need some money for that. The basic things that will cost you are;

  • Purchasing a domain name eg www.nanciemwai.co.ke

  • Purchasing hosting services

  • Paying a web developer to do for you a killer website

Other costs will include;

  • A camera or you could

  • Pay a photographer

  • A laptop

These are just the basics. When I started out 6 years ago I had none of these. I went upgrading slowly by slowly. So how do you start a blog when you have zero cash? There are free publishing tools, there's Blogger and Wordpress. I had a blogger blog for a year before I went ahead and purchased my domain name. I did not have to pay for hosting since google handled it. A domain name costs between 1000 to 1500 kes and is payable every year.

What Next?

As soon as you have that blog up you quickly realise that wearing clothes and taking photos is not that easy. You start wearing many hats. You're the head marketer, you're the brand and social media strategist, you're the stylist, you're the location scout, you're dealing with SEO and have to learn how to read and analyze your analytics and above all you have to create creative content.

This is where the passion factor kicks in and this is also where most people quit blogging. The main purpose of a blogger is create content, the rest has to be done to grow your blog, it gets easier as months go by and at some point everything will be running smoothly.
